Winners and finalists from 2022

Categories and Prizes

Any student up to the age of 18 (as of 17 May 2024) can enter, and we will select winners in three age categories:

The top 20 winning entries in each age group will earn a $100 gift-card prize and will be featured on our site. Students can submit multiple entries, but can only win one prize.

To enter, send us a link to your saved Polypad canvas using the submission form. Students need a free Desmos Classroom account to enter – learn more about the different options for creating accounts. For students under the age of 15, the form should be completed by a teacher, parent or guardian.

Inspiration and advice

Your submissions could be artwork, songs, puzzles, games, logic explorations, or anything you can create on Polypad. You’re only limited by your own creativity and imagination! Here are the winners from our last contest in 2022.

If you’re new to Polypad, welcome – we’re glad you’re here! The best way to learn is to just dive in, and look out for the “?” icon in the action bar to learn more about the features and options. You can also read our tutorial, or watch our Polypad Pointer videos on YouTube.

Here are some of the things that are possible with Polypad:

Create a Work of Art

Build tessellations, 3D objects, or anything else using the vast range of geometry tools available in Polypad.

Compose a Piece of Music

You can use mathematical objects like polygons, fraction bars or equations to create music. Start with our tutorial or look at this example.

Compute with Logic Gates

Polypad contains a full set of logic gates that can be used to build simple computer programs.

When judging, we will look for beautiful design (or sound), creativity and originality, interesting aspects of mathematics, as well as unique ways of using Polypad tools.

Regardless of what you create, you may want to use some of the more advanced authoring features of Polypad (e.g. locking tiles, changing labels or turning off actions).
